Mental Health Reflections

The up and down ‘corona-coaster’ describes the impact of unpredictability we’re experiencing and learning to live with.
The impact of this on our mental health and wellbeing can be significant.
We’re all finding ways to manage, some of those might be helpful and productive and some might be unproductive.
In the context of all of these stressors, it can be easy to detach from habits that support good mental health and wellbeing.
I’ve noticed my regular walking habit has been more elusive this year.
How about you?  How are you finding maintaining good well-being habits?
Seeing live musical theatre is one of my joys and a great asset for my mental health and wellbeing.
Theatre can be great fun and inspiring  – I loved Kinky Boots, Beautiful, Chicago and more recently Hamilton.
I also love the way theatre gives us an opportunity to reflect on the challenging themes life presents us.

Next month, Next to Normal is showing through the James Terry Collective in Melbourne.
It is a powerful rock musical that grapples with crisis and mental illness, loss and heartbreak.
It has been nominated for 11 Tony Awards winning 3 and a Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
As much as it explores very painful issues, it is a story of hope and the resilience of ordinary people.
If you are Victorian based, I highly recommend you see it.

As we move into winter and the shortest days of the year, how are you prioritising your mental health and wellbeing?
