Being Mindfully Supportive

This week I read an article that resonated with me and I thought it timely to share.

Found in New Zealand's Vozy hot topics - 'Supportive and empowered leaders crucial to enabling safe mental health conversations in the workplace'.

Mental health through Covid-19 has certainly come to the forefront of conversations. How could we be using this insight into each other's lives beyond the office in a positive way?

The below excerpt filled me with joy. Whilst a global pandemic was not the wake up call I was expecting, it has required leaders and workplaces to increase their focus on prioritising employee well-being.

"It’s vital to remind ourselves that when it comes to the mental health crisis, we’re not facing anything new. The difference now is that the pandemic has made it impossible to ignore. The onset of COVID-19 has not only highlighted the importance of mental health in the workplace, but compelled leaders to place the wellbeing of their employees significantly further up the organisational agenda."

Many of the leaders I coach have sought guidance about how to maintain and cultivate the wellbeing of their team over this time.

Some questions that may be useful to consider as a starting point:

  • What steps have you and your workplace taken to understand mental health and wellbeing?

  • What steps do you take each day and week to support your own mental health and wellbeing?

  • How do you continue to build good mental health and wellbeing in your team and workplace?
